Kim Woo Bin Movie Recommendations:
As you may or may not know, Kim Woo Bin’s been out of the spotlight for more than a year. In 2017, he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer. He has been seeking treatment, but updates on his health condition have been few and far between. Although, whenever we get an update from his agency, they seem mostly positive. Keep up the good fight, Kim Woo Bin! We’re praying for a full recovery. Fighting!
The funny thing is… I was just thinking about Woo Bin a few days ago and wondering how he was doing. I can’t imagine fighting cancer, but as both of my grandparent’s have gone through it, I’ve had first hand experience. This must be a tough battle for him — I’m not sure what complications and issues he is facing.
I don’t know how aggressive the cancer is when it was discovered or how it’s reacting to treatments, but the fact that he’s still going through treatments and/or recovering leads me to believe this is a very serious battle of cancer. This is purely my speculation and has not been researched or proven true. (If there are details that I’m missing, please feel free to let me know.)
With his agency releasing a statement yesterday, it looks like we’ll need to continue to be patient. Let’s wish the best for Woo Bin and cheer on a full recovery before he even thinks of taking a movie or drama offer.
The true nature of this post is to share some love for Kim Woo Bin. If you are new to the k-drama scene and have not seen The Heirs, it’s very likely that you don’t know much about him. He was the second male lead in The Heirs and a huge amount of viewers hearts were stolen and wanted him to win Park Shin Hye’s heart instead of Lee Min Ho.
In School 2013, Kim Woo Bin and Lee Jong Suk were serious bromance goals. I haven’t watched it in entirety, but I have watched clips. Thinking about Woo Bin is making me nostalgic. I may have to try out one of his earlier dramas. Who wants me to watch this drama and review it? Tell me below!
Uncontrollably Fond is another drama that he had a lead role in, but I never got around to watching it as Woo Bin’s character has cancer. And knowing that he has cancer in real life, I just can’t stomach that series knowing the ending. Cue the sobs.
He also has a brief cameo in To The Beautiful you, which I reviewed here. His role wasn’t substantial, but who can ever get enough of Woo Bin anyway? I’ll take every little bit I can get.
But the true focus on this post is to recommend two of his movies that I’ve watched numerous times and have loved. Tracking these down on the internet may take you down a dark road of less-than-legal sources, so please be wary. The end of DramaFever has ripped a lot of great dramas and movies from our grasps. (You may not be able to see it, but I am whipping the middle finger at Warner Brothers and AT&T. Yep, this girl is still bitter.)
Twenty: This is a coming of age story starring Kim Woo Bin, Lee Joon Ho, and Kang Ha Neul. It focuses on work, school, their love lives, and most importantly their friendship with each other. There is comedy, drama, and plenty of youthfulness in this movies. I remember watching it and feeling surprised as the characters are a bit progressive for this being a Korean movie. The bromance and accurate representation of twenty-year-old males is an appreciated touch. It may seen a bit immature and lacking at times, but it’s still fun and tells a good story. If you’re a Jung So Min fan like I am, she also plays Kim Woo Bin’s girlfriend in this movie. Great cast? Check. Fun story? Check. Realistic writing? Check.
The Technicians aka The Con Artists: It doesn’t matter what you know this movie as. For the sake of continuity, I will always call it The Technicians, which is what I know it as the most. This stars Kim Woo Bin, Lee Hyun Woo, Ko Chang Seok, and more. This is a caper/heist movie in which Woo Bin and his team are planning a heist to steal valuable diamonds. But this isn’t your run of the mill heist movie, there are some fun twists and turns that I truly never expected.
From beginning to end, you are kept on your toes. Kim Woo Bin’s character is very methodical and intelligent here. He is always two steps ahead and truly helps to keep this movie interesting and always moving. There are so many parts to this movie that make it a fun watch. If you’re a fan of movies like The Italian Job, The Technicians will be an enjoyable ride.
So what do you think, drama fans? Have you seen either of these movies? Are you a Kim Woo Bin fan? Let me know in the comments.
